In their pursuit of ultimate finesse, Bulgari has just taken a new step forward by unveiling an extra-flat, self-winding watch with the world’s thinnest tourbillon.

As the proverb says, by their fruits will you know them, and it must be said that Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo is particularly fruitful. Since the collection was launched, it has broken four world records for thinness. The most recent record was broken this year during Baselworld. The Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic model, just 3.95mm wide, is now the thinnest in its category! To achieve this result, the watchmakers worked with the Finissimo Tourbillon calibre, launched in 2014. This BVL 288 mechanism with a flying tourbillon is unique in having a rotor made from white gold and aluminium. The combination of the two metals, together with three ball-bearings, guarantee perfect regularity to the peripheral rotor. The result? Despite its thinness (1.95mm), the calibre supplies a power reserve of 52 hours.

The perfect adjustment of the mechanism to the sanded titanium, 42mm-wide case and the absence of a dial help produce this record-breaking slimness. The hour and minute hands float above a mechanical architecture of cogs. There is also a second hand, but no hour markers. A stylised opening on the back of the case gives another point of view of the watch mechanism.
